Congratulations Chenee, R&R Hero of the Month!

Rainbows and Roses is proud to recognize Chenee as R&R Hero of the Month! Chenee is truly outstanding and is the perfect hero for the holidays.

In November 2009, Chenee was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL T-Cell). Despite being hospitalized many times over the course of many years of treatments, Chenee always had an infectious positive spirit. She never let cancer keep her from doing the things she loved - like basketball and violin.

1n 2011, when Chenee was just 10 years old, doctors told her that she needed a bone marrow transplant. Chenee, who is Pilipino, faced a challenging search for a donor as only 0.6% of Pilipinos have registered for the National Bone Marrow Registry. But instead of giving up hope, Chenee took action, appearing on numerous news segments to raise awareness of the need for Pilipino bone marrow donors and hosting bone marrow registration drives with the help of her family, friends, church, and doctors.

Rainbows and Roses first met Chenee in 2011 and had the privilege of sponsoring her participation in the Lone Star Princess Program of the Miss Texas Organization for three years. Chenee is loved by all of the people she met through the experience, which involved fun activities and Chenee taking center stage for a performance at the Miss Texas Pageant.

After a long and courageous fight, Chenee beat ALL and is now a happy and healthy teenager. She enjoys dancing on her high school drill team and spending time with friends. Chenee remains active within the childhood cancer community of Texas and gives hope to children still fighting. We are incredibly thankful to have known Chenee for many years and we know she will continue to make the world a better place in the years to come!
